Hearts for Teaching Scholarship

Sponsored by the Soell Family, the Hearts for Teaching Scholarship Award is designed to support a Noble High School graduating senior who plans to pursue a degree in Special Education or a closely related education field. This scholarship honors students who lead with compassion, commitment, and a genuine heart for serving others.

This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate a passion for inclusive education, advocacy, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with disabilities. It is awarded to a student who exemplifies patience, empathy, leadership, and a strong desire to teach and support all learners.

The recipient shall meet the following criteria: 

  • Be a graduating senior at Noble High School

  • Have been accepted into or plan to enroll in an accredited college, university, or career-technical program

  • Declare an intended major in Special Education, Special Education–related teaching field, or a closely related area (e.g.,  General Education, Education with Special Education certification, Inclusive Education, Early Childhood)

  • Understanding of the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and advocacy

  • Evidence through coursework, career goals, or personal experiences

  • Participation in:

    • School-based activities

    • Community service

    • Volunteer work, job shadowing, or employment involving children or individuals with disabilities

  • Leadership or initiative in inclusive or service-oriented activities is strongly encouraged

  • Consistent effort in coursework

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and integrity

  • Recommendation(s) that speak to the applicant’s compassion, patience, and dedication

Applicants must submit an essay (300 words or fewer) addressing:

  • What inspired you to pursue a career in Special Education or Education, and how do you hope to make a difference as an educator?

  • What is your definition of inclusion. (in 3 sentences)

Required Application Materials

  • High school transcript

  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or education professional

  • Personal essay

  • Proof of college or program acceptance (if available at time of application)

Special consideration shall be given to 

  • Have a personal connection to disability through family, school, or community experiences

  • Experience working with students with disabilities

  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, and a heart for service

  • A commitment to inclusive education

  • Plans to return to the local community to teach

  • Actively promote inclusion, respect, and understanding

Please submit applications no later than May 1st, 2026. The 2026 award amount is $2,000.
