A 1988 graduate of Noble Public Schools, Chris was a 12 year senior. After graduating high school, he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees. After one year of teaching elementary music in Norman Public Schools, Chris began his career as a private music instructor and performing musician. In 2000, he co-founded the musical group Sugar Free Allstars and after seven years touring as a late-night club act, they released their first family friendly album that began a foray into the world of performing for kids and families. Since that time Sugar Free Allstars has become a well known Grammy-featured act on the national level with mentions in Time, People and Parents magazines; performances at the Austin City Limits Festival, Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods in Washington D.C., and the Rumpus Room at SiriusXM radio’s Kid’s Place Live studios; symphonic performances with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra; multiple #1 hits on SiriusXM’s Kid’s Place Live (including the song “Monster Truck”, the most played song of 2016 on the channel); and the inclusion of a song on a Grammy winning album.

Chris and his wife Emily recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary. She is beautiful, highly intelligent, patient, supportive and helps keep him grounded. Chris and Emily have been blessed with two handsome and funny little guys; Samuel who is 8 and Milo who is 4.

We caught up with this Noble Music Man to find out a little bit about his days growing up as a Bear, and what he thinks about life:

Share with us how your years spent in Noble contributed to shaping who you are today?

My years spent in Noble taught me how to be a self starter, how to take charge of a situation and find the motivation to complete any task I’m presented with. This has proved to be an invaluable skill when running my own businesses.

What is your favorite memory of growing up in Noble?

I have several: cub scout meetings in the building under the water tower, playing outside as a kid and finding rose rocks everywhere, Mr Scruggs' 6th grade science experiments, driving around on the country back roads with my friends late at night, going to Speech and Drama contests when Katherine Scott was our coach, playing with Rodney Hill on guitar and Jimmy Black on bass (I was playing drums) as a rock and roll pep band for the Powder Puff football game in high school.

Who were your most impactful teachers and why?

My first grade teacher Joy Laney and my third grade teacher Dena Willis. They showed genuine love for their students and took a personal interest in their learning. Mrs Willis ended up becoming a close family friend. I would also mention my 9th grade Oklahoma History teacher Lyndall Caddell. I remember his enthusiasm in teaching us about our home state and how it got me excited to learn. Additionally, my band directors Barry Kelsey and David Glaze, who helped to shape my love of music and instill in me the self-discipline needed to become a successful artist.
